After stopping off for a few local delights, an unassuming building appears above the horizon of Ombrone Valley – Castel Monastero.
Castel Monastero's history begins in the 11th century, when it was founded as a Benedictine monastery. The monastery was dedicated to Saint Michael and served as a place of worship and contemplation for monks. In the late 20th century, Castel Monastero was restored and transformed into the luxury resort that it is today. The property's historical charm and architectural heritage were carefully preserved during this renovation, ensuring that the past is still very much present in the estate's ambiance.
In the forecourt of Castel Monastero lies the property’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Contrada. A culinary masterpiece that artfully blends traditional Tuscan recipes with seasonal delights along with an extensive wine list sourced from local farms and winery suppliers.
