THE WHITE LOTUS X CAMILLA | NEW COLLABORATION

Meet The Artist: Lezio Lopes

Discover the artistic story behind the limited edition collaboration from The White Lotus x CAMILLA. To help bring the collaboration to life, the in-house CAMILLA artisans partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and Sydney-based artist Lezio Lopes – the illustrator who worked with Plains of Yonder on The White Lotus opening credits.

Brazilian, Sydney-based print designer and illustrator Lezio Lopes is a CAMILLA kindred spirit. His evocative, deeply intriguing drawings hypnotised audiences, beckoning to viewers the world over and effortlessly capturing the essence of the series' tangled storylines.

CAMILLA FRANKS AND LEZIO LOPEZ DESIGNING

"I fell in love with the richness and the detail of the illustrations in The White Lotus opening credits. I knew I had to seek out the artist behind them. Lezio's illustrations really capture an incredible sense of complexity in such a luscious way." – Camilla Franks.

When you combine an award-winning cult series, a globally celebrated fashion designer and a visionary illustrator... magic happens. What we’ve created is a fabulous fashion lovechild of luxury, travel and style.

"Lezio and I are kindred spirits, two artistic souls on the same path. There was creative alchemy from the moment we met. Together, we tumbled down the rabbit hole working closely to create three new prints that reimagine the three worlds of The White Lotus." – Camilla Franks.

Here, in this exclusive interview between Founder and Creative Director Camilla Franks and Lezio Lopes, we dive deeper into the stories behind the wearable artworks and the hidden details within each print.

Camilla Franks: I'm here today with the very talented and dashing and incredible Lezio Lopes, who created all the luscious illustrations for the opening credits of season one and two.

Lezio, tell me: what was it like to work on the biggest, most iconic television series of the last few years? How does one illustrate the drama, the intrigue, the love affairs, the scheming with a backdrop of paradise?

Lezio Lopes: It was incredible to join the creative studio Plains of Yonder to create the title sequence of The White Lotus and to help it come to life with my illustrations. For The White Lotus x CAMILLA collection, I wanted to capture that sense of complexity between the characters in the show, and that sense of trouble in paradise with a playful dose of CAMILLA. The three prints each reference the places where the series took place: Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand.

CF: Where was your mind at the very beginning of the process?

LL: I thought about this tropical paradise. Every element has been hand painted with the key characters of the TV show in mind, and their wild, tangled storylines.

CF: How would you describe the three different creations?

LL: Well, there are upbeat tropical Hawaiian island vibes that have an underlying sense of humour and darkness. There are chaotic scenes embedded in romantic Italian frescoes. Then there is the alluring, yet moody paradise set in the Thailand jungle that will entangle the most untamed of guests.

CF: How did you bring that through in your illustrations?

LL: It varied depending on the season. For your Ready For My Welcome Drink print, I hand illustrated the tiger, snake, elephant and leopard. Season Three hadn’t been released yet at this stage, so I tried to capture the dark, jungle vibe of Thailand. The animals are definitely going to be among the tamer guests!

Working on Venus On A Vespa, which was inspired by Season Two in Sicily, was a lot of fun too. For the credits I illustrated the characters and other features in the style of frescoes.

I think my favourite to work on was Welcome To The White Lotus. My illustrations for this one have the tropical island vibe but with an underlying sense of darkness. I hand illustrated the monkeys, pineapples, hibiscus flowers, bananas.

CF: The macaw and the Hawaiian figure in the shell were special creations, which you designed and illustrated just for these prints! There are so many little hidden details for fans to discover – for example, the figure in the shell is holding a White Lotus!

Lezio, I absolutely loved, working with you on these prints. Each were born from drama, with a feeling that anything can happen. We hope you love this collection as much as we loved designing it for you.
