FROM THE FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR

“I’ve been a printmaker and fashion designer for 20 years, and yet I still find inspiration around every corner. Visiting Türkiye again felt like coming home. And so, this collection is a return to my roots, and to my brand’s deepest heritage. What called to me, more than anything, was a deep sense of artistry and an unwavering dedication to craftsmanship. These things are at the heart of everything we do.”

CHAPTER NINE: WRITTEN IN THE STARS

“’Here be dragons,’ they said. “Venture beyond this point, and you will sail off the edge of the world.” My finger traces boundaries etched in ancient parchment, tracking ley lines and wind roses, coastlines and constellations. I whisper an ode to the cartographers and the stargazers, who mapped them long before I was born. Who dared to look up. They charted infinity in celestial animalia and planetary poetry. Whenever you feel lost, listen to the stars. They sing songs from millennia ago. Melodies written in dust and light that will always call you home.”

CHAPTER EIGHT: FELINE FOLKLORE

“Felines grace every cobblestone road, buzzing bazaar and luscious garden of Istanbul. Cautious yet curious, these harbingers of fortune, messengers of magic, are nurtured and revered. They reign supreme, prowling pavements, enchanting, endearing and entitled. Reclining on rugs, or roaming the city, Istanbul’s guardians are beloved and free. The locals say they belong to everyone and no one. Much like my wild heart and me.”

CHAPTER SEVEN: SCENES FROM THE BAZAAR

“Rich, bright rugs line the walls of this epic Istanbul emporium. They cascade from the ceiling like waterfalls or lie coiled in corners like beautiful slumbering beasts. The aficionado of this magnificent place has shared the stories behind each woven wonder and I am held happily captive for hours on end. I have found many favourites among his creations and he suggests we toss a coin to decide the price. I throw it into the air, where it flips and flickers and, magically, the result lands in my favour! I clutch this lucky talisman in my palm, bestowing it with a kiss. A gleaming disc of destiny, I will thread onto a necklace, keeping its lucky powers close to my grateful heart.”

CHAPTER SIX: GARDEN OF SECRETS

“Topkapi Palace tiles keep salacious secrets. Amid elegant corridors and intimidating opulence, confidences and collusion are common. Fantasies are fuelled in whispers. There have been clandestine trysts, in the garden, after midnight. Elaborate schemes for escapes, furtive fumblings or veiled longings. Dalliances masked by deception. Eyebrow raising overtures and even menacing threats. All witnessed only by the ever-silent tiles. Radiant flowers incarcerated in glaze. Beautiful backdrops to the sagas and the sin.”

CHAPTER FIVE: SWINGING SULTANS

“My heart and my step quicken as I venture through the Imperial Gate of the Topkapi Palace. I step through the sultan’s entryway and back in time. I become part of the procession and the pageantry, ushering royalty through to rooms so decadent they are reserved only for the most momentous ceremonies. The sultans are gargantuan figures resplendent in intricate robes and dripping with jewels, striding through tiled archways and walls adorned with calligraphy. Fawning courtiers and concubines fall at their feet, but not being one for pomp or protocol, I exit with a wink.”

CHAPTER FOUR: CAPPADOCIA KALEIDOSCOPE

“Türkiye turns to twilight and cosmic colours come out to play. Robes float around wandering rhapsodists and jewels drip from the necklines of the niche and the nouveau riche. Lucidity should be sacred, but I gamble it gleefully, slipping into a psychedelic funfare. Muses make merry, peddlers make promises and the unknown crooks its finger to me in the dark. Auras are ablaze, but largely unseen, as the pendulum swings from serenity to mayhem.”

CHAPTER THREE: BLOSSOMING IDEALS

“Flower power, 18th Century style. It comes inlaid with gold and drenched in grandeur. I find it nestled unexpectedly in a corner of the Topkapi Palace. The Tulip Period was a glorious era of Ottoman decorative arts, where expression replaced rage and nature soothed turmoil. The quarters of Sultan Ahmed III sing with tumbling blossoms, delicate frames, butterflies and bouquets. He was a pacifist among the bloodthirsty, a thinker among the ruthless. There is no strength without fragility.”

CHAPTER TWO: ISTANBUL INTRIGUE

“The Topkapi Palace still echoes with the pandemonium of the past. The dramas of lascivious sultans, zealous courtiers, stunning concubines and artful eunuchs that colluded in every ornamented corner. It is decked, archway to chamber and wall to window, with Iznik tiles, arabesque shapes, murals, stonework, amulets and talismans. A fitting backdrop for the opulence and unrest of the Ottoman empire that calls to restless souls with an unquenchable thirst for beauty and power.”

CHAPTER ONE: LETTERS FROM BOHEMIA

“The charm of Türkiye unfurls before me with the warmth of a thousand homespun treasures and the thrill of a magic carpet ride. It hums with a holistic hospitality. I’m welcomed into cosy parlours where my joyful hosts laugh and listen. Their generous smiles open my heart and kindle my creative spirit. Bountiful food appears on intricate, richly coloured ceramic plates and apple tea is poured from a seemingly bottomless pot. Hands are clapped and clasped in delight. Each tale is so vivid, each detail so unique, I long to hold onto every tenderly woven thread.”
