Camilla Franks Return To Travel
In some ways, the return to global travel seems like a lifetime ago, but it has been just 18 months since many of us took our tentative first steps back out into the world. This month, we launch our first travel collection since the world reopened. With it, we rediscover our love affair with exploration, and we return to the heart of CAMILLA: storytelling through the magic of print.
"During lockdown, I did a lot of cooking. I loved the ritual of baking bread and hand-making pasta. I would simmer my amazing MILLA-nara sauce for hours, dress the table with candlesticks, fresh lemons, sea salt and cracked pepper, then pour myself a glass of Chianti and just… close my eyes. I would imagine myself halfway around the world, sitting on the side of a cobblestone street in Sorrento or Venice and just invoke everything – every scent, every sound, every sensation. I called them ‘mind holidays’. They were a magical little ritual that kept my creativity flowing and soothed my wanderlust heart. I’ve always loved to explore, but I think this little ritual, and being grounded the last few years, gave me a whole new appreciation for how wonderful travel really is.
When we were lucky enough to spread our wings again, I couldn't wait to pack up the CAMILLA caravan and venture off-the-beaten path in search of new experiences. There's nothing like falling in love with a new place. Discovering its heart and soul; its people; immersing yourself in every moment. The smell of the food, the breathtaking colours of a sunrise, the splash of cold salt water on your skin as you leap into the ocean. Travel turns you into a storyteller – and storytelling is at the heart of everything I do. Now, it’s finally time for us to share a new adventure.
I think every single person who's been able to explore our world of late has felt this to be true, deep within their bones. When I was traveling through Italy, everything felt heightened and time flowed differently. Every moment seemed to last forever. The scent of citrus and Italian roses, the taste of salt on my lips, the sensation of wind whipping through my hair on the backseat of a stranger’s vespa, the colours that tumbled from market day suitcases… It felt like the entire world existed just for me. With this collection, I wanted to capture those moments; that romanticism, and evoke the magic of falling in love with a place all over again. I wanted to celebrate and honour these experiences through the eyes of a traveller. This collection is a reminder of how lucky we are to spread our wings again. Of the joys we must never take for granted: looking out over a pebblestone beach, white silk curtains billowing in the evening breeze, the beautiful patchwork that humans and Mother Earth weave together. These prints are a love letter to travel, and to Italy."
