Printspiration: Swinging London
Yeahhh baby!
At the end of our travels, we found ourselves in downtown London, where the delectably groovy sixties scene was calling our name.
This was the first time in history that London was done with being posh and proper: it found itself in a poetic hotbed of creative expression, spontaneous social rebellion, an obsession with tabloid gossip, raunchy rock melodies, perfect pop, and paisley prince and princesses.
We longed to be able to stroll down Carnaby Street right into the wild technicolour dreamworld of Swinging London.
The happening epicentre of this defining decade is where you would spot musos like The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, and models like Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton flaunting themselves amongst the trendy and tantalizing throngs of the fashion crazed youth.
Utterly mesmerised, we traced our way back through time by trawling though vintage markets, discovering treasure after treasure. With each new find our creative juices were heightened, and we excitingly began planning out our new designs.
We then traipsed to London’s V&A to the Mary Quant exhibition, the woman who launched a fabulous fashion revolution on Britain’s High Street. She scandalously raised hemlines sky-high, and then she raised them again.
These prints are our ode to this magical time. You’ll find a kaleidoscope of hand-painted prints that tell the story of London’s cultural revolution: pretty paisley, peace signs, animal prints, guitars and hippie florals.
The silhouettes are reminiscent of the party scene: discover swing dresses, shirt dresses, halter-necked jumpsuits, elegant feathers and oversized collars.
